    This book, about the voices of African American/black women in the academy, could not be more timely and appropriate than at the beginning of the twenty-first century. Black women scholars employed in predominantly white colleges and universities are a rather recent phenomenon. 'Forgotten Voices is a series of audio tapes and books put together by the Imperial War Museum. The sound archive features thousands of interviews with people who survived wars in which the British were involved in the 20th Century. Each book has been compiled by an individual editor, though with the exception of the introduction to each.   I have these voices in my brain and I created them and I hate them, but I ask them to stay.
